5 WAYS TO CURE HORMONAL ACNE
Hormonal acne, adult acne, chin acne – whatever you want to call it – it’s p*ss annoying. And feels like impossible to get rid of, especially when it’s the time of the month.
After trying thousands of different products, (and diets!) here are 5 products that actually cleared my skin – for good.

1. Balance those Hormones
First things first, let’s actually sort out the root of the issue.
Those damn hormones.
These Active Iron for Women Vitamins are primarily an iron supplement, however they also advertised to help with hormonal balance.
The reviews online for getting rid of acne were through the roof, so I was so excited to try them – and I cannot tell you how much they have changed my life.
After a couple of weeks of taking them everyday, my skin was the clearest it had been in years.
No matter what my skincare routine is, if I’m not taking these vitamins every night, the spots around my chin will creep back in.
I couldn’t believe something had actually worked.
I’ve been suffering for years, spending thousands on creams and cleansers – and the answer was vitamins that cost £15 on Amazon.
Take one of each tablet every night, and watch your skin absolutely transform.
Spoiler alert – these only work for acne around your jawline/chin – the acne which is caused by hormones. Acne on your forehead/cheeks etc these won’t help, for more info on how to clear acne elsewhere on your skin click here.
2. Salicylic Acid is your Best Friend
I know you’ve probably read this a thousand times if you’ve googled hormonal acne as much as I have, but salicylic acid does work.
However it has to be the right amount of salicylic acid for it to actually get under your skin to make a difference to your skin.
I went into Harrods and spoke to one of the stunning skin experts, where her skin was gleaming as I walked over to her, and she told me all about the Murad Blemish Control Cleanser…
This cleanser is made so that even after you wash it off you can still feel the salicylic acid working on your skin, and trust me – you definitely can!
As you lather it onto your skin you can feel that slight buzz as the salicylic acid gets to work.
Work it in circles all over your face and leave it to work on your skin for at least 20 seconds before you wash it off.
As you wipe your freshly cleaned skin with the towel you feel a whole new freshness on your skin that you’ve never felt before.
Left with a relaxing tingle of the salicylic acid still resting on your skin, you already know you’re going to be seeing results soon.
And trust me after a few days, you’ll never use a different cleanser again.
4. Retinol Is Also a Bestie
You’ve probably heard of retinol to help with anti-ageing, but did you know it can actually get rid of acne too?
Retinol gets under the skin and penetrates the middle layer to stimulate collagen production.
While it does this, it also exfoliates your skin – removing all of the dirt that would cause acne.
The Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum was the first and last retinol product I tried – it worked, instantly.
I use it straight after toning, and follow with a good, nourishing moisturiser.
Retinol can be quite the work out for your skin (in a good way), so make sure to properly moisturise afterwards to avoid any dryness or irritation.
5. Get a Good Water Bottle
Ok, I will apologise now, as I know you have probably read ‘drink more water’ until you’re blue in the face.
But unfortunately, no matter how many supplements I take or products I apply to my skin, if I slack on the water, those spots will still get through (a lot less after the supplements, but a few will still make it if I don’t flush them out).
The best thing I’ve found to make sure you get enough H2O – a sparkly new water bottle.
I saw Khloe Kardashian post this water bottle on her story and was sold immediately.
Not only does it make sure you drink over 2 litres a day, but it keeps you drinking water throughout the day as well.
It’s just as important to drink regularly, as well as drink enough – otherwise you are still dehydrating your skin!
When your skin is nicely hydrated the toxins that can cause acne are flushed out, whereas if there isn’t enough water circulating, then those toxins will just be left sat there to do their worst.
5. Manuka Honey
If there is one thing you are going to add to your diet to help your skin, it has to be Manuka honey.
This number one superfood does EVERYTHING.
It’s anti bacterial, anti oxidant, anti inflammatory, anti blooming’ everything.
In simpler terms, it clears out any bacteria that could cause acne.
It also reduces inflammation for any spots you may already have.
And thirdly, it massively aids wound healing, meaning it will clear those acne scars within no time.
Add a spoonful into warm water and enjoy as a nice hot drink (not boiling water as this will burn the honey!) or into your overnight oats as a boost for breakfast.
