Ice

For a quick fix (the effects from this will last a few hours), apply an ice cube wrapped in cloth onto the spot for a couple of minutes.

The ice will restrict the blood vessels temporarily, limiting the red blood that can pump into that spot, making it a bit less red.

I read this trick in cosmopolitan years ago and never forgot it. It’s such an easy and quick remedy just to take the edge off of that bursting red monster.

Fake Tan

Everyone looks better with a tan.

And big red spots are gonna look less big and less red on a darker background.

I know what you’re thinking. Doesn’t fake tan give you spots? Yes. It can. IF you use the wrong one.

First things first – do not use a body fake tan on your face. Sounds obvious. But I did it for years, and wondered why my skin wasn’t clear.

Fake tan is filled with all sorts of oils that can block the pores, causing a build of bacteria that all in all is just gonna create those spots we dread.

Once I finally realised this (it took me longer than I’d like to admit) I researched the best face fake tan. And the winner?

These Filter by Molly Mae Face Drops. You just add two drops into your moisturiser before you go to bed, and it works just as well as any normal fake tan.

Except without the oils and blocking your pores.

This was after just one application of the face drops. – I’d had a heavy weekend, forgot to take my vitamins and hadn’t cleansed properly.

So this little guy made an appearance on my chin. I can’t blame him. But look at how much less visible he is with a more tanned base.

I felt way more human after waking up the next day with this glow, and confident enough to not have to coat my face in foundation.

Pro tip – wash you hands after use. You may think 2 drops mixed into your moisturiser isn’t going to stain your hands. It does. For 4 days.

A Good Concealer

The quality of a concealer can really make a difference when you’re having a bad skin day.

Some concealers just dry the spots out and make them more visible by having that crispy top.

You need a good coverage concealer that’s going to neutralise the colour and not just ‘highlight.’

There’s a reason why everyone absolutely raves about the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

It’s a non drying formula, that lasts on your skin all day, and has buildable coverage. That means if you want a nice little glow under the eye then this will do the job. If you also need to cover that bad boy spot then this concealer will completely neutralise the red.

Dab over the spot a couple of times and then leave it there for 5-10 minutes before blending – you’ll be surprised at how much wipes off if you blend it in straight away.

Once I’ve blended it in I go over it with my foundation so it is well and truly covered.

Lipliner

If you’re going out tonight and you’re really vulnerable with your skin, the best distraction is a strong bold lip.

Now I’m not suggesting bright red, unless that’s your thing, but a nice nude lip will really distract from any spots on your face.

Most of the time I just wear lipliner on it’s own and don’t bother with a lipstick on top. It lasts a lot longer and you don’t get that flakiness with just the liner.

I’ve tried the NYX liners and they are good, but they just don’t last. Especially if you are going out to eat.

My all time favourites have to be the MAC liners.

They are highly pigmented, glide onto your lips smoothly, and last all through the meal and drinks.

My top two colours at the moment are SPICE and CORK. They’re both nude colours, but strong colours. Bold enough to distract from your skin, but not too bold where you will feel like you’re standing out of the crowd.

Make sure you always over-line your lips a little bit to give that plump look too.

Spot Treatment

Keep a bottle of this Kate Somerville Blemish Treatment in your bathroom for those absolute emergencies. This anti inflammatory, anti bacterial, and highest level of sulphur allowed for acne, is a miracle in a bottle. It shrinks spots within a couple of hours.

And within 2 days the spot will be gone.

Do not mix the bottle, just pop a cotton bud in the top pink layer and dab onto your spot. Leave to dry for as long as you can before applying make up.

By the time you turn up to your event, your spot will be half the size.
