Acne Busting Overnight Oats

How Breakfast Can Clear Your Skin!

You can pack tons of nutrients into overnight oats – the oats themselves are filled with antibacterial properties that will help to fight the germs that cause acne.

Another tip to make them acne friendly is to use dairy free milk – the hormones from cows could cause acne (similar to how extra hormones around your period can cause acne).

The great thing about overnight oats is that they are super versatile, as you can add pretty much anything you want to them! So here are the top acne fighting ingredients to add to your morning oats to give you clear skin. Every. Single. Day.

The Glowing Skin Superfood Powder

I searched high and low for the best supplement to add to my oats that’s going to benefit my skin the most, and after some serious research on ingredients, the Forever Beautiful Smoothie Powder one came out on top.

Filled with the top antioxidant berries from the Amazon rainforest (Açai, Acerola Cherries and Pomegranate to name a few), a spoonful of this will give your skin all of the nutrients to glow from the inside out.

Try half a teaspoon for your first time in your oats, and build up so you get used to the taste, and say hello to glowing, clear and B-E-A-utiful skin.

Manuka Honey

This is the superfood in your oats that will banish your acne – I promise!

This Raw Manuka Honey is made by bees pollinating manuka flowers, found in some of the most remote locations in New Zealand (hence the price).

Brimming with antibacterials – meaning it will leave less bacteria in your skin to infect pores and cause those spots.

Also filled with tons of anti-inflammatories so those spots will heal a lot quicker.

A spoonful of this will give your oats that sweet taste it needs, packed full of nutrients!

Protein Powder

So most overnight oat recipes will have a protein powder to make it more filling and of course to increase the protein intake, but there are protein powders that can actually cause acne.

I have tried various protein powders over the years, but I keep coming back to this Gold Standard Whey Protein Powder – purely because the combination of taste, and my skin is always clear when I’m using it.

Low in sugar and fat, (reducing that spike in insulin levels that can cause acne) this Gold Standard Whey Protein Powder gives you 24g of protein AND a natural boost of collagen.

My current favourite flavour is Chocolate Hazelnut – it has a creamy nutty taste, with a sweet chocolatey kick to get those endorphins going nice and early!

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are filled with skin benefits –

Packed with Omega 3 which decreases inflammation in the body (music to our acne busting ears!)

Chia Seeds are also the secret ingredient to making your overnight oats lovely and creamy.

These babies soak up to 27 times their weight in liquid!

Add one teaspoon to get a glowing complexion and deliciously creamy oats all in one.

Protein Yoghurt

This is purely for taste and texture reasons, and also that little boost of protein!

If you’re vegan or dairy is a big trigger for your skin, use a dairy free yoghurt like Alpro.

But if you’re using dairy free milk, a little spoonful of yoghurt shouldn’t cause too much damage!

My favourite is the Skyr Vanilla Protein yoghurt – I can really notice the difference when I don’t add this in – a lot less creamy and thick.

Give it a go – you won’t regret it!

Fruit

Here is where you can really spice things up and throw in your favourite fruits – all fruits are going to be great of your skin!

And do you want to know the best fruit for fighting acne?

Goji berries!

Goji berries are strong antioxidants, which prevent the sebum from oxidising – depriving the acne from having the chance to form.

They are also a powerful anti-inflammatory, and are loaded with beta-carotene which promotes healthy skin.

These organic Earth Basket goji berries come handy on Amazon and will keep you going for ages.

I throw a handful of goji berries into my oats, and overnight they soften and become nice and creamy!

I pair this with a handful of frozen strawberries (frozen strawberries taste so much better in the morning, and as they defrost the juice melts into the oats and gives a lovely fruity ju!)

Ingredients

60g Rolled Quaker Oats

One Scoop of Gold Standard Chocolate Hazelnut Protein Powder (Low in sugar to fight acne!)

One teaspoon of the Your Super Forever Beautiful Smoothie Powder

10g of Chia Seeds

One teaspoon of Manuka honey (The Acne fighting ingredient!)

One tablespoon of Protein Yoghurt

120g of Oat Milk (Switch out your dairy!)

You can pretty much do anything with them – freeze them, microwave them, pop them in your bag and take it to work without worrying about them leaking.
